BY THE SEA
Get the full scoop on the high society scandals and terrible tragedies hidden behind Cape May's magnificent Gilded Age mansions! 

On this seaside stroll along and near Beach Avenue, our storyteller will bring the glamor and gloom of the Gilded Age back to life with tales of the missing wills, family feuds, and mysterious accidents that haunt the east end of Cape May. Our team has combed through hundreds of antique documents to find the real history behind some of the most famous hauntings in this part of town, uncovering stories that have never before been shared in Cape May’s paranormal community!
OUR STORIES

• Features 6 exclusive stories, including the Angel of the Sea, the Peter Shields Inn, and the site of the Christian Admiral.

• Covers Cape May's Gilded Age, from the 1880's through the 1920's. 

• Potentially sensitive topics include multiple accidental deaths, including some by catastrophic injury, and one of a minor under the age of 16. We aim to treat these subjects respectfully and without explicit detail.

• Due to potentially sensitive topics we recommend this tour for ages 16 & up.

OUR ROUTE

• Our tours are entirely open-air and proceed rain or shine!

• This tour includes 6 locations along and near Beach Avenue.

• Total time is 45 minutes - 1 hour, depending on guest pace.

• Each tour includes 10 - 15 minutes of walking time, in stretches of 2 - 4 minutes at a time, and covers half a mile.

• This is a non-looping tour. The walk back to the start of the tour is 7 minutes, but both the meeting and ending spot are one block away from one of Cape May's free shuttle stops.

• This tour meets on the beach, which is accessible by ramp. Parts of our route may be dark. We welcome flashlights and mobility aids.

JOIN US

Tours meet on the Trenton Avenue beach, so be prepared with your footwear! Guests should walk up the ramp and onto the sand to join us.

There is no designated parking or signage for our tour at the meeting place, but our guide will be waiting at the meeting spot from 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled tour start time, wearing a Ghost Capers ID badge and carrying a lantern.

Nearby free shuttle stops, run by the City of Cape May, are also marked on the map below. Shuttles run from 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM on all dates during our tour season. Free parking for the shuttle is available at the Cape May Elementary School at 921 Lafayette Street but is subject to availability.
